The latest from Wye Coppice
Summer and Autumn flew by. Here's a summary of some of the things we got up to, from taking on new trainees to running a whole host of courses.
Anyone interested in joining Wye Coppice as a trainee for this cutting season needs to get their applications in before the deadline on 1 July 2024!
We're all about showing people why we coppice. Some folks might just see a pile of sticks after we've cut a coupe, but we see lots of useful material and know lots of people who can use it. Take a look at this to see where it all went from one site in Southeast Wales.
Snow, wind, hail, torrential rain and cold, cold days… It’s been a tough season for the Wye Coppice crew. The team got together to look back on a host of achievements, despite the weather, and to discuss future plans.
Our woodland management trainees, who began in September, have successfully passed their chainsaw training and started work in the woods. By all accounts, they're loving it - although the weather so far has been pretty clement! Read on to find out what they had to say about the last few weeks.
Grown in Britain - the scheme that supports active management of the UK's forests - has been going for 10 years!
To celebrate, they held a bash in Oxfordshire this week, where Joe Weaver met some of the leading professionals in UK forestry. Wye Coppice is fully behind the scheme, which not only certifies wood products and timber as grown in this country, but also oversees initiatives such as Plant Healthy that help to mitigate the threat from plant pests and disease.
We are proud to say that all Wye Coppice's products are certified 'Grown in Britain'.
Recruiting now for the 2023-2024 traineeship. Supported by the Wye Valley Sustainable Development Fund.
Wye Coppice is seeking four people to start on the road to a career in woodland management.
